Fons & Porter Love of Quilting 2 (part 1)

I left PD on Wednesday the 18th -- a chilly blustery day -- heading to Rapid City. Judi and I would fly out on Friday to Seattle, meet up with Debi and board the "Westerdam" for our first ever sistie quilt cruise.

My road trip north was uneventful...partly cloudy, windy, misty, but lots of beautiful scenery. As I got closer to RC it became more overcast with a little more moisture...as in wipers on all of the time. It rained all day Thursday -- constant and steady -- a-l-l d-a-y l-o-n-g. Obviously their spring rain was going to bring flowers in June!

Judi and I had a 12:50 p.m. flight to Salt Lake on Friday. We arrived 75 minutes prior to boarding, as instructed. As time approached no plane was in sight. Unfortunately it had mechanical problems, still sitting in Minneapolis and would not be arriving as scheduled. Delay upon delay, we finally departed at 4:40 p.m., made it to SEA/TAC (as everyone refers to the airport)--got the shuttle to hotel, ordered room service and went to bed. Debi had been there since 5ish and had her own adventure -- discovering a bed bug and having to relocate to another room!

The next day would be Saturday, May 21st our boarding day ... our adventure would soon begin!

Wind? What wind?

I have been flying the flag my dad flew daily, weather permitting, since January 2007. Last week while I was in town we had a front come through and daddy's flag began to tear. A Mother's Day gift to myself this year was to replace the flag with one that, perhaps, could withstand the "gale force" winds we get on our hill.
The new flag (made in USA) was displayed for the first time on Mother's Day Sunday and was looking good. But alas, it was a windy hot day and I had to retire the flag mid morning ...

So-o-o I guess winter is over and summer is fast approaching!!!

Rag top #2

1984 Pontiac Sunbird

Bought this little "jewel" when middle daughter was a junior in high school. It was a snappy little car with a lot of "umph". Unfortunately "umph" was a turbo-charger, which was not reliable ... after third replacement we traded for the LeBaron.

It was a sweet ride ~ really miss not having a convertible.

H-two-Oh!

Sammy loves her sink drink!

When you visit our house and need to use the bathroom our cat Sam may follow you in. She'll sit patiently at base of cabinet which is your signal to pick her up (she has a bad back and no longer leaps up). Just turn cold faucet to slow flow and she will "wet her whiskers".

We purchased our home in November 1977 ... and main floor half-bath is still dated with aqua fixtures ... (home built in 1973). Isn't it lovely? I especially like the blue formica countertop NOT!!!

Charming Nebraska ...

As you have already read, last month I participated in the 2011 NIFS Shop Hop. Each shop was worth "x" number of points -- so you earned as you visited each store. Depending on the number of shops you stopped at you also were eligible for a drawing. So there were several ways to "win". Prizes, like Girl Scout cookie incentives, were accumulative. I visited all 39 stores -- so had a pretty good chance of winning the mega prize...a $200.00 gift certificate! In today's mail I received a $10.00 gift certificate -- because I had stopped at each store -- WooHoot for me!!! Wonder if I should still hold out for the big prize to arrive soon? While I wait I better organize my fabric stash to see if there is anything I need to apply my $10.00 towards!!!

2011 Lincoln Marathon

This past Sunday Michelle, Lisa and girlfriend Heather participated in the Lincoln Half Marathon. The three of them met in the staging area near Memorial Stadium at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday morning ~ yawn ~ Thank goodness Larry is an early riser and able to get Michelle into town in plenty of time!

There were over 10,000 registered participants this year; they were three of the 8,000 doing the half marathon – that’s a lot of people! Participants ranged in age from 8 to 84 … what a feat regardless of age and 62% of total registrants were women!!! Rather than run the "girls" walked the route … they were really hoofing it when I met up with them.
I got a late start on Sunday so didn’t catch up with Larry until Mile 10 – near my childhood home at 10th & Plum. By then they were on the downhill side of the walk and going at a pretty good pace. They were not as “fresh” looking as they had been at 7 a.m., but were all grins and waving. I was glad I got to see them walk past – they were hoofing on towards the Memorial Stadium finish line.
We were able to find parking on campus and get into stadium before “the girls”. Got to see them on the robotron screen as they made their way on outer walk on west side of stadium and would soon enter through southwest tunnel!!! What a sight to see, our girls running onto the field and crossing the finish line. They did it!!!

Now to rest up. I wonder if they will contemplate doing it again?
