Go Big Red ~

Finally, after 4+ years, got up my nerve to attend a UNL football game. It was made easier by attending with sister Judi.

Our dad began purchasing season tickets in 1946 ~ and was able to maintain the same seats. Wish I had kept tabs on the number of times I got to attend with him. He always sat on the left with the 50 yard line running between us.

Judi and I arrived more than a hour early so had the opportunity to watch the stands fill up.

I love my Nebraska Cornhuskers ... and look forward to going to many more games. Thanks HHBB for having the best seats in the house!!!

2011 Lincoln Marathon

This past Sunday Michelle, Lisa and girlfriend Heather participated in the Lincoln Half Marathon. The three of them met in the staging area near Memorial Stadium at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday morning ~ yawn ~ Thank goodness Larry is an early riser and able to get Michelle into town in plenty of time!

There were over 10,000 registered participants this year; they were three of the 8,000 doing the half marathon – that’s a lot of people! Participants ranged in age from 8 to 84 … what a feat regardless of age and 62% of total registrants were women!!! Rather than run the "girls" walked the route … they were really hoofing it when I met up with them.
I got a late start on Sunday so didn’t catch up with Larry until Mile 10 – near my childhood home at 10th & Plum. By then they were on the downhill side of the walk and going at a pretty good pace. They were not as “fresh” looking as they had been at 7 a.m., but were all grins and waving. I was glad I got to see them walk past – they were hoofing on towards the Memorial Stadium finish line.
We were able to find parking on campus and get into stadium before “the girls”. Got to see them on the robotron screen as they made their way on outer walk on west side of stadium and would soon enter through southwest tunnel!!! What a sight to see, our girls running onto the field and crossing the finish line. They did it!!!

Now to rest up. I wonder if they will contemplate doing it again?

College Football...Alas...

Alas my Nebraska Cornhuskers fell flat losing to Texas 13 to 20. If they had only caught all of those passes can you imagine the score?

But, alas, the Wisconsin Badgers were successful in bumping off #1 Ohio...

So a "Big Red" did win yesterday. I do believe Nebraska's first away game will be visiting Wisconsin in Madison next October. I would love to be in that sea of red!!!
