"Snapshots"

Spent an entire morning cleaning up quilt room ... again. It's amazing how a long arm quilt frame shelf becomes a "waiting room". Now everything is put away and properly labeled.

I have challenged myself to start and finish projects purchased during the July 2008 road trip with my sisters. I don't remember the name of the town or shop, but do remember it as a light blue Morton-type building and the town was very small. It was early morning and in south-eastern Minnesota (along I-90 corridor). I was drawn to a flannel quilt on display and it reminded me of "son" Dan.This quilt is entitled "Snapshots" and from the Happy Hour collection by Atkinson Designs (and no, my colors are more masculine).A plethora of flannel colors (these are 2" squares, to assist with block color combinations).I spent four hours ironing and cutting 21 flannel fat quarters. They are all sorted, stacked and ready for assembly. Soon to become 63 - 9" blocks.

Curvacious

I started sewing at a very young age. I remember sitting on the basement floor of grandparents home on South 48th Street in Lincoln sewing on Grandma's featherweight. The fabric was white polka dot on Army green cotton ... it was a simple circle skirt and little matching top for my doll (Grandma had created pattern and cut fabric for me). The doll was one of the six-eight inch models - pre-Barbie era, she was of hard plastic, with a brunette "flip" and had eyes that opened and closed! I was so excited and felt so grown up. So, my Grandmother and Mother deserve the credit for my love of sewing and developing my creativity.

My intention when retiring was to do some traveling visiting daughter's and vacationing with sisters. I was able to combine many of my road trips with quilt shop stops. I have since accumulated ALOT of fabrics, kits, books, and even purchased a new BabyLock Quest sewing machine at Nancy's Notions in Beaver Dam Wisconsin. There are so many projects now that my sewing and quilting rooms are overflowing. Have put a "stop" on future purchases UNTIL some of what was on shelves were finished and gifted.

This is a table runner appropriately named "Curvacious". I purchased this kit from the "Quilted Stitches" shop in Beatrice Nebraska, the first stop on my 2011 NIQS shop hop. I loved the colors of sample on display. It is a quilt as you go project with an applique (curves)...something I had never done before. Now I can say I have done one and it might be fun to attempt on a larger scale ~ say a baby or lap quilt.

LEBL

Promised my Alaskan niece that I would make her a cover for her new e-reader. I had made one previously for her mother from a quilt magazine pattern. Do you think I could remember which magazine and which year? That would be a big N-O!

So I got to create my own design (yeah). I cut a piece of cardboard with same measurements of the e-reader (smart move I must say). Found fat quarters I felt matched her personality and began measuring, cutting, and sewing.

I am somewhat pleased with the end result. Now to package up and send off to Romania!
I love you Lyndsay ... Happy Reading!!!

feeling ... a ... little ... melancholy

There are 5 things in life you cannot recover:

A stone ... after it's thrown,
A word ... after it is said,
An occasion ... after it's missed,
The time ...after it's gone, and
A person ... after they die.

Life is short. Break the rules. Forgive quickly. Kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably; And never regret anything that made you smile, Enjoy Life!!
